Different Types of Air Dryers and Their Uses
by
snehashah
Air dryers play an important role in keeping the machinery in top working condition and to reduce the work space temperature. There are various types of air dryers including heatless air dryers, refrigerated dryers, membrane dryers and deliquescent dryers among others.
Heatless Air Dryers are very effective in not only removing moisture but also the temperature and exhaust emitted by machines, thereby keeping the room temperature at optimum levels. The refrigerated air dryers are probably the most popularly used. It could lower the temperature of the incoming hot air and enhance the temperature of the outlet air to prevent condensation. It is effective in filtering dust, oil and moisture and is easy to operate and control.
There are various types of refrigerated air dryers including air cooled and water cooled varieties. A refrigerated air dryer enhance the life span of the machineries, by preventing the water and dust particles from entering your compressor, which could lead to corrosion and breakdown of machinery parts. It works just like a refrigerator, cooling compressed air condensing the trapped moisture so that is separated from the air supply before moving downstream. Refrigerated compressed air dryers are used to get a constant pressure dew point between 38 F and 50 F. Refrigerated air dryers are particularly useful for air systems where all air lines are located indoors and not subjected to ambient conditions. Some of the advantages of refrigerated air dryer include faster operation, lower down time and less product spoilage and low energy costs
A deliquescent dryer,on the other hand, is a pressure vessel that has a powder in the bottom that slowly dissolves into a liquid as it absorbs the water from the air compressor. A deliquescent air compressor dryer is simple to operate and is well suited for remote work sites. These air dryers are used in various applications including steel mills, saw mills and cement and mining units – to name a few. Deliquescent dryers are particularly useful to be employed in dirty and hazardous environments or far-flung locations with limited or no electricity
It is the least expensive type of compressed air dryer considering its low start up and operational costs. Available in capacities from 48 to 5000 SCFM, these use deliquescent tablets that absorb moisture and gradually dissolve. The biggest advantage is that deliquescent air dryers can be installed in virtually any location. From indoor and outdoor locations to remote work sites and mobile equipment or offshore locations these can be set up easily and have no moving parts or energy consumption. Highly economical to operate and zero maintenance, deliquescent dryers are effective in removing water from compressed air on demand. Irrespective of the water content in the air, the dryer responds automatically to system requirements.
