When searching for a way to design a kid’s room so that it really suits them, consider using their hobbies as inspiration for the room’s d cor. By including elements from all of their favorite activities, a child will have a room that is full of all of their prized possessions. For a very active child, it may be necessary to edit which of their interests are showcased in the room, and whenever possible it is always a good idea to have the child choose which elements will be featured front and center.
Here are ideas for decorating with common hobbies.
Crafting a Kid’s Bedroom
Art is a favorite hobby for many children, and along with art comes crafts. What a great inspiration for a child’s bedroom design. The first thing to do for the arts and crafts kid is to create a display area for all of their artwork, so cover one wall in cork to create a giant wall display of their own artwork. Then include a mobile workstation in the room in the form of a movable cart filled with craft supplies. It should include a table top along with drawers to hold tools like scissors, glitter, glue, hole punches, knitting needles, and crochet hooks, and materials like beads, paper, craft books, clay, yarn and paint for easy access. Then let the child create their own accessories using their very own craft supplies like a decoupage lampshade, a curtain trimmed with clay crafted buttons, an upholstered headboard, and a beaded pull chain for the ceiling fan. Look for ideas online and in craft magazines to find inspiration for new projects for a kid’s, crafty room.
Black and White Soccer Theme
Most children love some type of sport, like soccer, and this makes a wonderful theme for a child’s bedroom. For a soccer inspired room, begin creating the overall look by adding a grass, green carpet to the floor to simulate the playing field. Paint a mural of bleachers with fans on the wall, or use wall decals in a soccer motif to add soccer balls and soccer players to the walls. Replace the light fixture with a soccer ball light fixture, and add soccer themed curtains to the window treatments. Display any memorabilia like soccer jerseys on the wall. The overall color theme of the room can be a striking black and white for a very graphic, youthful aesthetic.
Cozy Reading Corner
Some children have their nose buried in a book every free moment of the day, and for the child who loves to read, incorporating some of their favorite books or characters in their bedroom d cor is a magnificent idea. Create a wild west scene or a castle from King Arthur’s court. For an older child, The books themselves may make the best d cor, and with them the room can take on the appeal of a library. Add bookshelves to the walls, and let the child fill them with their favorite titles. Create a cozy reading nook with an overstuffed chair and a good reading light. Add a blanket and pillow to the chair for the ultimate in reading comfort.
Decorating around a hobby is something that works for just about any child’s bedroom, and it creates a room that is custom tailored to the child’s favorite things. Enlist the help of the child when putting the room together, and the finished product will surely be something that both parent and child is happy to see.
